Speed Control System at Nice
In partnership with ground handlers, NICE AIRPORT chooses ADVEEZ speed control system for GSE to upgrade worker safety in baggage galleries....Today, in airports, one big issue is speed limitation in baggage galleries. Many reported Ground Support Equipment (GSE) accidents were linked to excessive speed and bad drivers’ behaviors: causing human injuries, vehicles degradation and infrastructure damages. Nice Côte d’Azur Airport takes up this safety challenge with the IoT solution. Therefore to address this issue, prevent accidents and improve safety, they contracted ADVEEZ to deploy its Speed Control System on baggage galleries of Terminal 1, Terminal 2.1 and Terminal 2.2. The system consists of one module installed in each vehicle by the ground handler. And it is communicating with the 12 beacons fixed on the infrastructures by the airport. Hence this installation defines perimeters of slowdown areas. The 85 equipped GSE speed is now automatically and smoothly reduced to 5km/h when operators enter baggage galleries. Outside, the speed is released to normal state to ensure normal running. Airport managers and GSE operators are very satisfied with this safe speed system. And they report that ADVEEZ system significantly reduces accidents. Moreover, ADVEEZ speed control decreases work interruptions, GSE and infrastructure repair costs as well as insurance costs. Futhermore, this new installation fall within the process of equipment continuous improvement. In partnership with the ground handlers, this process upgrades worker safety and the passenger journey fluidity. Pedestrians and workers say: "it creates a real sense of security and that they can move more freely and safely in these slowdown areas." To conclude, our system is now part of the internal regulations of Nice Côte d'Azur Airport. And managers has requested to include it in the new project of Terminal 2.3 extension.

Speed control system for safety – Marseille Provence Airport
In 2016, Marseille Airport has been a pioneer in terms of security and safety on the ground and in the baggage galleries. In order to get fast and effective results, they have decided to undertake an innovative process for safety using telematic technology. Ruled by a Police decree, ADVEEZ automatic speed control system have been set up on all GSE throughout a few months. At the end of the process, all stakeholders have noticed a real safety and sound difference in the working environment. A safe feeling for everyone has changed permanently operations and working conditions on the ground and in the baggage gallery.
“This speed limitation system is a revolution! All airport employees and ground handlers are feeling safer and less stressed. Moreover, the noise emissions have significantly decreased. Many benefits came from this solution.” says M. Azemar, Security and safety Director for Marseille Provence Airport.
Safety challenges for airports
As airport professionals knows, baggage galleries can be very crowded, busy and noisy. Indeed, pedestrians are sharing this small space with motorized vehicles and trolleys. Accidents, infrastructure injuries and insecurity are common if the rules are not respected. Furthermore, the decibel numbers can rise very easily. All these disturbances may cause disruptions during airport operations for handlers, airlines companies and ultimately for passengers.ADVEEZ speed control system
To address these issues, they contracted ADVEEZ to deploy its Speed Control System on the baggage gallery. One connected module is installed in each vehicle communicating by Bluetooth with beacons fixed on the infrastructure. The beacon location defines the perimeter of the slowdown area. The GSE speed is automatically and smoothly reduced to 8 km/h when the vehicle enters in the baggage gallery. Thus, they are insured to drive at a pedestrian speed. And speed bumps are no longer necessary which decrease significantly the vehicle damages and the decibels in the area. Indeed, the noise intensity has been divided by 4, thanks to this connected system. Outside the perimeter, normal speed is ensured for normal running operations.Improved working environment and cost savings
There is a before and an after the speed control system in the airport. Indeed, Marseille Provence Airport reports that the telematic system has improved safety and quality of work in the baggage galleries for all the airport stakeholders. No more accident or injuries and less noise have been observed with the system. Thus, by avoiding important infrastructure reparations, they have made great costs savings on insurance and maintenance. Now, the airport is working with the handlers to extend the system into new zones inside and around the buildings. They would like to make safer and more silent area for both employees and passengers while saving money, a win-win solution for everyone. Maintenance optimization with Groundforce
Since 2018, Groundforce, a Spanish operating handler, has been an ADVEEZ key partner for fleet management and maintenance optimization. Early 2018, Groundforce wanted to improve significantly their maintenance costs and operational efficiency in their airports. After a successful proof of concept on 8 GSE, Groundforce and ADVEEZ has extended the deployment to a 120 GSE pilot project in Madrid. And this year, these projects lead to the signature of a frame agreement for their global fleet of 1400 GSE.
Challenges to answer
Many questions arose to improve the daily operation performances.- Are the assets in the correct parking stand?
- Can we manage the driver authorizations and improve its GSE utilizations?
- How can we decrease corrective maintenance based on a driver access control management?
- Can we save energy and optimize the idle time (engine on but no real operation of the GSE)?
- How many GSE need or are in maintenance?
- Can I invoice in real time the GSE utilization?
ADVEEZ telematic solutions for connected handlers
Thanks to the ADVEEZ FAMA module placed inside the GSE, all captured data from the vehicle are available in real time: location, speed, energy, hour-meter, etc… The impact is also on maintenance. With the captured data, the system knows where the GSE are, their allocation and usages. Therefore, maintenance forecasts are enhanced and planned. The hand-free access control is facilitating the operations with the drivers. The system allows them to start the GSE and all information related to the driver are known in real time. Thus, the ADVEEZ effective hardware and captured data allow fleet management improvement and operation optimization in real time. Groundforce uses ADVEEZ Localeez® web platform to track and manage their GSE fleet for daily operations and analysis. Since the beginning of this partnership, Groundforce has significantly contributed to Localeez® web platform improvement. And additional features were specifically developed to deliver a real business application, perfectly in line with daily operations. For the fleet management, Groundforce already has an specific IT environment in place. ADVEEZ took this into account with its API and ensures the interoperability between the captured data and the web platform.Efficiency and project roll out
Better fleet management combined with better maintenance forecasts have significantly improved smooth operations and organization for Groundforce. And therefore, the roll out phase is now on-going to finalize the installation of ADVEEZ fleet asset management system. This successful key partnership demonstrates the perfect combination of Groundforce experience in ground support operations and ADVEEZ expertise as a key player in asset management solutions based on a powerful hardware and web platform. Today thanks to this great first achievement, Groundforce and ADVEEZ signed a frame agreement to equip up to 1400 GSE across 10 different airports managed by Groundforce. The roll out phase is on-going in Madrid and will continue during 2020 in Barcelona.

Ramp safety with telematics
Safety is a significant challenge for all airports across the world. With the increasing flight number, airports must innovatively manage safety question and never compromise it. Statistically, the apron can be the most unsafe place at the airport. Indeed, many people with different priorities perform their work with specialized and new ground equipment on the airport ramp. In addition to this, they are under significant pressure from time and space constraints. Nowadays, airlines want to turn planes around as quickly as possible. Airports want to pack as many stands into a given area as possible. Hence the risk of safety incidents increases considerably. And speed is one of the issues which compromise safety on the apron.
Speed control telematics system
Many ramp incidents are caused by non-respect of speed limits or unauthorized or unqualified GSE drivers despite prevention, training, and warning signs. Therefore, ADVEEZ has designed an automatic speed control system. This telematic innovation controls the speed of the vehicle automatically in a designated area, inside or outside the building, the baggage gallery, the warehouses, etc. Thanks to geofence technology, the outside space can be customized to any facilities. Our data capture technology is monitoring speed, shocks, and trajectories. Moreover, thanks to ADVEEZ hands-free tag, GSE drivers are identified automatically. And managers can remotely lock and unlock the vehicle if needed. Installed in many airport aprons across the world, this innovative telematics has reduced the incident numbers significantly. Moreover, it has reduced infrastructure, maintenance, and insurance costs. To discover our ADVEEZ speed control system in airport aprons such as Marseille, Brussels, Nice, etc.Co-operation and co-ordination: key success factors.

GSE data capture with JBT
Helping our customers continuously improve their ground operations is key for JBT and ADVEEZ. To help in that effort, JBT teams up with ADVEEZ to provide improved ground support equipment monitoring and location tracking on its GSE products. JBT is offering factory-installed ADVEEZ FAMA systems on many of its products such as pushback tractors, loaders, deicers and more. Hence the airport equipment on the apron is connected and monitored by customers in a variety of configurations best suited to customer needs. As a global leader, JBT is a worldwide supplier for manufacture, installation, support, maintenance, monitoring and management of gate-side and ground support airport equipment.
Digital challenges for future airports
JBT can upgrade their product offerings and digitize tracking operations in order to help customers improve their services and operations. Installing the FAMA systems allows new and innovative services to offer to JBT clients. Moreover, GSE owners and operators can follow their fleet in real time and better understand their equipment life cycle. Therefore, JBT can make useful and insightful recommendations to their customers in order to optimize their maintenance turnaround.ADVEEZ solutions to digitize the aprons
The FAMA is a connected device which sends, in real-time, data from the equipment and its drivers. Hands-free access control, geofence, outdoor tracking, fuel, battery level, shock detection are among all the data that our telematic device can manage in real time on the ground. Data are captured and available daily on their IOPS platform for analysis. These data help managing the fleet or the operations such as the maintenance. Thanks to this device, JBT implements dynamic maintenance alerts for its customers. From reactive, they become pro-active and predictive with confidence.Significant improvement for all
The first equipment are already out since January 2020 and are part of a bigger project for JBT: digitization of the worldwide airport aprons. Indeed, telematics are the tools to digitize ramp operations. Therefore, safety, equipment maintenance and operations are meant to improve significantly.Safety is a significant challenge for all airports across the world.
Safety management is a continuous effort and improvement for airports around the world. From previous experience, training, processes, and prevention are implemented to reduce accidents and safety hazards. Learning from an incident is a great and good practice. However, implementing proactive systems complementary to the existing one makes improvements more efficient. Data capture and telematics are one of these proactive solutions that are easy to enforce in airport ramps. Significant technical innovations are certainly helping to improve safety management. It must always be associated with co-operation and co-ordination between the aerodrome operator, ground service providers, airlines, and other airport users and contractors to become a real success. Innovative ADVEEZ algorithm for fall detection released in ABEYE eyewear
Toulouse – October 27th, 2019. Fall is a major challenge for many elderly persons across the world and is a public health concern. Indeed with 400 000 falls each year in France only, 65+ years old persons are the first one to be concerned. Moreover, they are encouraged more and more to stay at home. Fall detection wearables are helping prevention and fast intervention at home if needed. Since our beginnings, ADVEEZ has always tried to increase safety and prevention for its users to help them in their daily activities. And fall detection was one of our big subjects to work on from our starts. Thanks to LAAS CNRS technology transfer, ADVEEZ has enriched the algorithm with research and development for 4 years.
3 innovations from ADVEEZ
ADVEEZ has integrated 3 innovation in our fall detection technology:- First, ADVEEZ has adapted and miniaturized the embedded system to fit in a wearable such as eyewear, watches or bracelets. Indeed, the algorithm is complex and needs a great computing power. ADVEEZ achieved a great technological feat to fit in a device that includes many constrains like size, weight and design.
- Secondly, the algorithm considers the kinetic and how the device is worn. In fact, human movements have an impact on the fall detection whether the user is wearing the device around the wrist or on his nose.
- Thirdly ADVEEZ technology is using a smart calibration to adapt and connect to a particular user and its behaviors. When first worn, the algorithm will adapt depending on each person activities and movement frequency.
Eyewear application and international distribution
Innovation needs to be used and worn easily and every day to be relevant for the users. Therefore, ADVEEZ and ABEYE has worked together to integrate this innovation in a senior eyewear. Our technology and the smart glasses are connected to an automatic alert and monitoring system for family or nurses. Thus, it allows an immediate intervention and help for the users after a fall. Families and loved ones feel safer and less stressed to leave their autonomous seniors at home.Partnership and international distribution
ADVEEZ and ABEYE are cooperating to offer an exclusive connected optical frame for fall detection and senior wellness. Both partners share the same values offering useful, elegant and affordable innovation to answer this critical health challenge. “Spectalert” is the name of the smart senior range for the optical retailer. Wander management system in AP-HP Broca Hospital
AP-HP Broca Hospital, specialized in geriatric care and innovation, chooses ADVEEZ wander management system for its facilites in Paris. Belonging to AP-HP group, Broca hospital counts 39 sites in Paris area. This hospital is specific for geriatric care and innovation. Well-known for its expertise, geriatrists come often from all over the country to attend seminaries and follow trainings. End of last year, Broca needed to renew its installation and wanted to find a solution regarding wandering for disoriented elderly people. Therefore, their purchase department launched a bid for tender. ADVEEZ won it in collaboration with its partner EDJ, integrator near Paris.
Challenges and installation
Considering the age of the building, it was necessary to make a technical study to optimize the controller locations and our central monitoring. The project planned 8 exits to secure: -1 exit in the garden with access to the street -1 door close to the nursery -6 other doors: 1 on the ground floor, the other ones on the first floor, in the lift, and at the entrance. Regarding the configuration of the hospital, Adveez chose to cable our controllers. The challenge was to draw the cable on several floors and specifically outside the building. At last but not least, the installation has to be linked to a board with buzzers located at the main entrance of the hospital. Indeed, the essential function is to warn medical staff when people runaway.System dedicated to wander management in hopital.
ADVEEZ has placed the controllers in the ceiling and the antennas close to the door, at 1,20 m from the ground. Thus, safety is optimized. Indeed, dementia people are not able to pull our devices as antenna is flat and controller is out of reach. 100 seniors have been equipped with temper-proofed armband. This device is detected by our controller twice, above the main entrance and on the wall outside, near to the street access.Immediate benefits for the nurse team and the seniors
Thanks to our customized solutions, Adveez was able to meet requirements in term of price and installation. Adveez solution is now referenced by AP-HP who is satisfied with its durability, easy installation and reliability. Nurses can concentrate on their main tasks like caring and monitoring people. At the same time they feel less stressed and pressured. Furthermore, the resident families feel appeased. Thanks to our solution, nurses can inform them accurately with activity reports generated by our solution in a excel board. In addition to this system, an extension to nursing call system is possible if Broca wishes to select one.Adveez is particularly involved in safety projects. From providing an innovative solution for worker with 30cm tracking accuracy to guarantee the security of lone workers, our global solution for security is the heart of our research & development.
